A couple weeks ago, the historical Sag Harbor Cinema was lost in a fire on Main Street. Currently, there is an empty space where the building once stood. If it were up to you, what would you do with that space? Would you rebuild it, making it as close to what it was before? Would you rebuild it, but upgrade it, making it a more modern and updated building? Would you leave the space empty, paying a tribute to the great building that was once there? Would you build something entirely different in the space? Explain your answer.
I truly loved the Sag Harbor Cinema but..... I would upgrade it and make it a movie theater with popcorn and drinks were people can enjoy movies till midnight🎬

DeleteI would build a better upgraded movie theater so more people would go to watch new movies. They could sell popcorn, food, and drinks. I think this would be a better movie theater.

DeleteIf it were indeed my choice of what to do I would rebuild the building but update it because the movie theater was outdated and they should update the screens, seating arrangements, quality food, and movies also it attract more people here and it would make more revenue and it would also keep the spirit of the old building alive and not build a new building and having no spirit of the old building and personally it needed an update anyway.
ReplyDeleteI would build it into a candy factory. It would make Sag harbor a much more bigger town and it would give Sag harbor more money to spend on making the town better. Look at disney world and the area around it. Before Walt disney built the park nobody had heard of Orlando but now there are tons of people staying in Motels all around the area. I would say Sag harbor would need a place that people all around the country would know.

ReplyDeleteWhat I would do to the property is to rebuild the cinema because its a historic peice of property that is was over 120 years ago, it was always my favorite building in Sag Harbor with the big neon sign. the fire department said that it may of been caused by a ciggarete that wasnt put out or that the lights of a Christmas tree could of taken up to much power. its a sad thing because its a big historic building thats one of the oldest buildings in Sag Harbor
ReplyDeleteWen i hered that there was a fire in town i was thincking a reelly small one just like a grile firer but it ened up to be big. now in that space i want a hubache so then we can have that grate food and amazing tricks.🍴
ReplyDeleteI would build a store that would sell devices because some people have to go far away to get phones or computors. That is why I think there sould be place were they sell devices.

ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I would try building as close as it was before because the people that might live here in the future will know what Sag Harbor was like before. I think that it is important that people knew about the fire but haven't seen it before the fire happened, and if it was built the same with the same sign( because they saved it) that people would know what the beautiful town was before the awful fire happened.
ReplyDeleteI would either rebuild it as close as it was before, or I would leave the space empty as a tribute to the cinema, because the theater was there for 100 years, and if you made it modern, or built something new, it would not make the town as bright as it was before. But rebuilding it as close as it was would make the whole village of Sag Harbor happier. But also, leaving it as it is as a tribute would be okay too, because people would be able to look at the spot, and remember it as it was. And they would remember all of the memories that they shared there with their families. And they could remember all of the great movies that they watched at the cinema. I never saw any movies there, and went in only once or twice, but every time I drove into town or walked around town, I saw the cinema. And the last time I went to town, I looked at the space where the theater once was, and I thought about all of the times that I walked past the theater, and all of the times I saw the Sag Harbor sign hanging over all of the people, some of them not even from Sag Harbor, but the sign was always there. And I will always think of it as there.

I also think that will make a lot of money. I want to build a theater agan because it was a preshas part of this town

ReplyDeleteIf i had to explain why i would want to rebuild it and try to make it the same, or rebuild it and make an upgrade, i would choose that because we have had that building for a really long time and since it burned down we cant keep the memorys that we had with it so maybe we could try building it again and try having the memmorys.
ReplyDeleteI think there should be a arcade. I think this because town is very boring it is only abouy shopping and eating. It would be a big hit in town for kids. there are really no arcades around sag harbor so it would be less of an affort for kids and families.

ReplyDeleteI think the movie theatre should be different. The movie theatre should be bigger and movies for kids and families. The movie theatre should be bigger because it only had one actual theatre and it shared the building with an art gallery. Also, it should have movie for families and children because the movie theatre was for only adults and if any child wanted to go to the movies they would have to go like for example Southampton, Hampton Bays and more. So, those were two things that I would do with that space.
ReplyDeleteI think there should be some thing entirely different. I think there should be a garden in memory of the movie theatre and have the sag harbor sign that was on the building standing in the middle. I think we should do this because so that we can keep the history and not build over it.

That kids and parents can go to the movies. people want to go to a movie theater that is close and is kid friendly. so people don't want to go to south Hampton because it is longer to get there.but if there is a movie theater in sag harbor. It will be faster then going all the way to south Hampton.
ReplyDeleteI think they should build a small bowling alley. This way you dont have to drive all the way to Riverhead. It would be epic! the old movie theater was just for adults. Now, it will be for all ages!🎳🙂
ReplyDeleteHonestly I've never been there but i think they should rebuild the movie theter becaue poeple had a lot of memories there and great knoleg like if a tourist were to come they would have a lot of good information. I herd that the movie theter was over 100 years old. If they are to rebuild it I think they should upgrade it just a little bit so that kids of any age could watch shows and movies there.🏨

DeleteI think there sould be a multi level green house. It could be free and open to the public. You would be able to sell and buy food that is grown in there. and there can be a kid's level where they can plant thier own things and an adult level. Then everyone in the town can be closer together
ReplyDeleteI would build it as close as possible to the old one as they can. I would do that because the actual movie theater was not burnt down, only the lobby was destroyed. Also it was a very historacal building and with the big letters on that said, SAG HARBOR on it. The letters also made sag harbor what it is now.

ReplyDeleteIt really is heart breaking to look at that open space. But do you know what is even MORE heart braking that sag harbor doesn't recycle so i was thinking to make our world CLEANER! We could build a recycle center! Because you might not see it now but there is so much debre from the fire and there is trash on the floor that could be used a emty shampoo bottle could be turned into a comb! Sag harbor is a beautiful place lets try and keep it beautiful>

It would also have benches and other things to make look nicer.
I would try to keep it the same but mordernize it, but not to much. I would make it so its not so dark, because when I went to the movies it was really dark as I was geting popcorn. So I would put glass window in the front so light can come in. Inside I would make it so there is more then one room so more movies at a time.
ReplyDeleteI think that they should make an exact replica of the sag harbor movie theater, I think this way because there is a lot of history in that building. My whole family is a fire man, my grandfather, my dad, and my two uncles. One of my uncles is Bruce Schiavoni and they found out how the movie theater burned to the ground. It was something that happened with the electrical system, the electric box caught on fire at the coffee shop and since the wind was blowing it spread to the movie theater. They also kept the sign.

ReplyDeleteI've never been to the Sag Harbor Cinema I have passed it though, but I know it was a very important historical land mark. So I would keep the sighn, but make the inside modern and extend the space where it use to be if that is possible. Also I would play better movies :)

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, what happened was really sad. I would make, "The Sag Harbor Theater." I would call it the sag harbor theater because the downstairs would be a movie theater, and on the top would be an auditorium. Also, in the lobby, they would the sag harbor sign that they saved, and a picture of the cinema and a label that would say: Sag Harbor Cinema, burnt down in 2016 on Friday, December 16, 2016. They could have other events at the auditorium that have already been planned to happen at Bay Street. And, we wouldn't have to go all the way to Southampton or Easthampton to enjoy a good movie. It would be SOOOOOO good.
ReplyDeleteIf I had the power to chose what should go there I would put what was there. It's historical. It's been there forever. It's been the setting for many memories. If it's not there anymore people will forget those memories and then they will be lost forever. That is why I think we should make use the empty lot and use it to make what was there.
ReplyDeleteThe only bad thing is that Sag Harbor can't afford to make it how it was. If someone like Mama in Sing came and built the theater again I would be so grateful.
Well that's my idea.
I think it is really sad what happend to a great building full of our beloved towns history. But if I could decide I would make a little cafe with a garden outside and maybe a statue of the sag harbor sign with a plaque of dedication on it. The name of the cafe would be Sag Harbor Eats. Some of the items on the menu would be named after history that went on in our town. There would be benches and tables with umbrellas to eat outside. In the cafe to the side there would be a little gift shop were T-shirts and hats and little trinkits that represent our town and the cinema that burnt down. In the cafe there would be pictures of our town. That is my idea of what the cinema should be now.

ReplyDeleteThe cinema was the heart of Main Street, but I feel like this empty space needs to turn into something Main Street doesn't have. We already have tons of real estate places, restaurants and expensive clothing shops. It would be nice if we had a sports memorabilia. This would be great for baseball fans, they would have binders, singed balls, and tons of packs. It wouldn't be the heart of Main Street, but at least it will be more kid-friendly.
